Pre-Law Scholars Program

About the Program

Saint Louis University’s Pre-Law Scholars Program, offered through the Office of Pre-Health and Pre-Law Studies, gives incoming freshmen interested in attending Saint Louis University School of Law a head start. With classes taught by law school professors, experiences in the courtroom and opportunities to work with local attorneys, future lawyers can find their place early in their college careers. Pre-Law Scholars who successfully complete the program are guaranteed a spot at SLU Law following graduation.

Application Process

Applicants should have a combined (verbal plus mathematics) SAT score of at least 1390 or a minimum composite ACT score of 30. They should also have outstanding academic record, with particular attention to performance in history, social studies, American government and English. 

An online application is available in conjunction with the main SLU application. Once accepted into the Pre-Law Scholars Program, you must sign and return the invitation to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions via email or mail to Saint Louis University, DuBourg Hall, Room 119, One North Grand Blvd. For more information, contact the Office of Pre-Health and Pre-Law Studies by email or phone at 314-977-2840.

Requirements

Pre-Law Scholars have freedom to declare any major in any area of study. In addition their major's requirements, Pre-Law Scholars will complete a series of four integrated courses (12 credit hours) taught by adjunct lawyers and SLU Law faculty. One of these courses is an experiential learning course, PLS 4910: Legal Internship. Pre-Law Scholars will also create a personalized ePortfolio documenting academic and co-curriculum experiences throughout their college career. Freshmen

  • Attend a reception and a case discussion with the dean of the law school in the fall.
  • Take PLS 1000: Introduction to Law.
  • Attend two pre-law events designated for Pre-Law Scholars.
  • Attain a minimum 3.6 cumulative GPA by the end of the year.

Sophomores - Seniors

  • Attend at least two events per year from a series of workshops and law school enrichment programs.
  • Scholars must keep a minimum 3.7 cumulative GPA at the end of junior and senior year.
  • Take PLS 2000: Introduction to Legal Writing and Research.
  • Take PLS 4965: Foundations of Law taught by SLU Law Faculty.
  • Take PLS 4910: Legal Internship taught by SLU Law Faculty or staff.
  • Complete ePortfolio and submit to PHPL office.

All students who have met the requirements of the Pre-Law Scholars Program will earn a guaranteed seat in the fall class of Saint Louis University School of Law immediately following graduation, contingent upon:

  • Taking the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and submitting an application to Saint Louis University School of Law through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC).
  • Maintaining and graduating with a minimum 3.7 cumulative GPA or higher.
