About Saint Louis University School of Medicine - La Clinica!

In 1993, Reverend C. William Chignoli founded Acción Social Comunitaria (Hispanic/Latino Community Social Action or ASC), a non-profit, community-based organization whose goal is to develop a system of support for the Hispanic community that addresses the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of community members. ASC is currently governed and operated almost entirely by volunteer personnel. It offers bilingual services in Spanish and English; however, any ethnic group is welcome. The purpose of ASC is to assist all individuals regardless of race, age, or creed.

Acción Social Comunitaria includes all of the following services:

  • Information and referral services
  • Community Development - Community Health Workers, Family Law Legal Services, Communication (Multi-Media)
  • Education Programs
  • La Clinica - Latino Community Health Center

The focus of La Clinica is to provide primary health care in the areas of mental health, childhood and adult immunizations, diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, gynecology, dental care, screening for Tuberculosis, and other health care issues. La Clinica offers diagnosis and medical treatment of outpatients by a group of licensed doctors of medicine, dentistry, and nurse practitioners, assisted by the allied health professions. Services provided by La Clinica are holistic, family focused, and tailored to the needs of individual clients.

In order for La Clinica to be successful, a variety of volunteers are needed - people who are medically trained, have health care backgrounds, and others in the community with a variety of skills, including knowledge of Spanish.

La Clinica's Mission:
"La Clinica - Latino Community Health Centers is to assure the provision of comprehensive primary health care and enabling services to underserved, uninsured migrant workers, immigrants, refugees and persons of Hispanic/Latino descent."
